The Transportation Planning Division is primarily responsible for work performed by the York Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (YAMPO). The current Unified Planning Work Program (UPWP) is the work plan approved by YAMPO. The UPWP list tasks that are mostly recurring in nature, the Transportation Improvement Plan and the Long Range Transportation Plan have 2 and 4 year update cycles. The Congestion Management Process (CMP), traffic counts, Local Technical Assistance Programs (LTAP) and other data collection task are efforts that are based on a continuous or 12 month time period. Other tasks listed in the UPWP are more general coordination efforts that produce documents, but not on federal or state mandated timeline.
In addition to YAMPO activities we also review traffic impact studies and land development plans, municipal subdivision ordinance reviews, municipal comprehensive plan reviews in coordination with Long Range Planning and Municipal Planning.
