The Information Systems Department is responsible for the routine maintenance of
the computer and network infrastructure within the planning commission and
development of a countywide Geographic Information System (GIS). The GIS is a
database of County information that can be displayed on maps of the County. The
maps are created through a combination of Aerial Photography and vector data,
such as tax maps, flood plains, roads, soils and many other layers.
Mapping and analyses can be done through combining and overlaying data layers to
help make smart decisions in the Planning Commission, County departments and a
variety of other agencies. Data is available in typical printout
form or on computer generated maps. In addition to the GIS, other information is
developed in this department and is available to municipalities, citizens, and
organizations. A partial listing of the information available is provided below.
