What is the Local Government Advisory Committee?
The Local Government Advisory Committee or LGAC is a committee of elected and appointed municipal officials from each of the 72 municipalities in York County.
What is the purpose of LGAC?
There are several purposes of LGAC and they include the following:
● To review and make recommendations on planning projects being conducted by the York County Planning Commission.
● To review and make recommendations to the York County Planning Commission concerning projects or plans proposed or conducted by the various municipalities represented.
● To keep municipalities posted on the status or results of the various planning projects presented at the regular meetings of the LGAC.
● To be concerned with and review all projects and plans involving transportation, sewage collection systems and facilities, solid waste programs, recreation and open space, land use and development, housing problems, governmental administration and other planning-related subjects in York County.
How often do they meet?
The Full Committee meets on the first Wednesday of January, May and September. It is typically a dinner meeting with a presentation following the meal on a topic of current interest to municipal government. The May meeting is the annual meeting where officers are elected to serve for the next year.
The Executive Committee meets on the Wednesday prior to the Planning Commission Meeting in all other months. The Executive Committee consists of the LGAC Chairman, Vice-Chairman, Secretary, and one LGAC member for each class of municipality located within that planning region. The Executive Committee carries on the month-to-month operations of the LGAC, through a liaison with the York County Planning Commission, and creates subcommittees as necessary, and reviews their work.
